Reflections of Easter

When you think of Easter Sunday, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Many associate Easter with chocolates, egg dyeing and colorful Easter baskets. It is often easy to forget the true meaning of Easter amid all the exciting holiday activities.

Easter is a special holiday that fell on the 4th of April this year, where we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Jesus, God’s only son, willingly gave up his own life on the cross for our sins. Easter is a time to rejoice and celebrate Jesus’ victory.

Easter Sunday is the last holiday that occurs after a series of events often referred to as “Holy Week”. The week begins with Palm Sunday, traditionally celebrated with a feast that commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, followed by Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, which celebrates when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, and the Last Supper. The next holiday celebrated during Holy Week is Good Friday. Good Friday represents Jesus’ crucifixion. While Jesus’ death was dreadful, the event also represents his sacrifice for us and eternal life.

It is important to remember the true meaning of Easter and to understand the events that led up to Jesus’ resurrection. Although everyone’s holiday may have looked a bit different this year, we hope you and your family and friends were able to safely gather and celebrate the resurrection of our Savior.
