COVID-19 Safety Tips

COVID-19 is an infectious virus caused by the recently discovered coronavirus affecting many throughout the globe. Keep yourself and those you love protected and healthy with these safety tips.

How to Protect Yourself

The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19 is to avoid exposure to the virus. Since the virus can spread between people within 6 feet of each other through respiratory droplets, such as coughing or sneezing, it’s important to remain a safe physical distance from others.

Remember to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially if you have been in a public place and after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose. You can use a hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not readily available. Additionally, you should avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth!

If COVID-19 is spreading within your community, it’s imperative to prevent close contact with individuals who are sick and to put physical distance between yourself and others, especially if you’re at a higher risk for severe illness.

Keep Your Spaces Clean

It’s important to regularly and consistently clean and disinfect the high-traffic surfaces in your home with an EPA-registered household disinfectant. Prior to disinfecting these surfaces, you should ensure that they’re cleaned with soap and water. Some of these places can include:

  • Tables
  • Doorknobs
  • Light Switches
  • Countertops
  • Handles
  • Desks
  • Phones
  • Keyboards
  • Toilets
  • Faucets
  • Sinks

If You’re Feeling Sick

Cover your nose and mouth with a bent elbow or a tissue whenever you cough or sneeze and stay home if you’re feeling unwell. These preventative measures can go a long way to protecting others. If you are experiencing a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, call a medical provider, and seek medical attention immediately.

Follow the directions of your local health authority and do your part to protect yourself and others! Remember to take these precautions seriously to stay healthy and keep up to date with the latest news as this situation continues to unfold.
